Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
The Pousada Pedra Torta has acquired the Marambaia Farm. Together with a partnership of the SOS Mata Atlântica, they have participated in a restoration project for sections of the Atlantic Forest.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The Atlantic Forest is the Brazilian ecosystem that most suffered from environmental impacts during various economic cycles. The Pousada Pedra Torta is concerned about the neglect this area has received and acquired the Marambaia Farm in 2005 to restore the acreage. It is a 17 hectare property, situated on the Ilhéus-Itacaré Highway, located about at 10 km from Itacaré's centre.
The Jeribucaçu River, one of the most important in the region, passes through the Marambaia Farm property and flows to the Jeribucaçu Beach. The farm also has waterfalls, fountainheads and recreational areas.
The Marambaia Farm has partnered with the SOS Mata Atlântica organization on a project of restoration and enrichment of Atlantic Forest fragments. This project consists of planting 20.000 seedlings of native species. For technical orientation and supplying of seeds, the Pousada Pedra Torta counts on the support of Floresta Viva Institute, an NGO that works on the Environmental Protection Area of Itacaré - Serra Grande.
This project was concluded in 2007, and each visitor plants a seed of a native species as they pass through to maintain this noble initiative.
